Sexual Harassment Workplace And Mandatory Training

Employees in any job should feel safe from sexual or abusive conduct, but it is a fact sexual harassment workplace incidents have and do happen. If an employee is being victimized from either a co worker or even a supervisor, it can create what is called a hostile environment. This makes it difficult for the employee to perform job duties in manner that is productive.

Sexual harassment in the workplace causes hostile environment are demands for sexual favors in return for job promotions or continued employment, making off color jokes, using vulgar names for specific parts of the body, touching inappropriately, and other types of negative behavior that makes it difficult to stay focus on one's job.

Other forms of abuse and discrimination occur besides sexual harassment workplace incidents, and these are racial bias, gender or age discrimination, negative reactions toward someone with specific sexual preferences, marital status and physical or mental disabilities. It is very important and in many states mandatory, to set up sexual harassment training for businesses which employ 50 or more individuals. The training should be given every two years. For those who are newly hired, training should be completed within the first 6 months of employment.

Sexual harassment workplace training in California and mandatory in several other states is called AB 1825. The training may be performed in either a classroom or private room, administered by a qualified teacher, and last approximately two hours. Prospective teachers should be either an attorney who has two years experience in civil rights, a professor of law, or an experience human resource director. The content should include videos, real life situations of sexual or non sexual abuse, discrimination, and the civil rights act of 1964. Videos, slides, graphs and other materials should be used along with handouts and a quiz.

Sexual harassment workplace training provides the employer with the skills to fight against lawsuits by knowing the legalities of workplace conditions. The training for employees provides them with the peace of mind they are not going to be subjected to abuse or sexual advances by another employee. If there are advances, the employee will be equipped with the knowledge his employer is on his side.
