The workplace should be a professional and safe environment for all employees with equal pay for an equal job. Tragically, the workplace can become a hostile environment when situations such as bias gender, racial discrimination and sexual harassment from a coworker or supervisor occur. When instances of all unwanted sexual behavior are not stopped by the employer's policy measures, a lawsuit may be filed against the company. AB 1825 was passed in the state to mandate all companies with 50 employees or more, to offer effective compliance training every two years. This class must be taught by a highly qualified person such as a sexual harassment lawyer, with at least two years experience and well versed in all aspects of discrimination, a human resource director trained in civil rights, or a professor of law. When putting AB 1825 into action, roll call will begin and class will last approximately 2 hours. Content will include group questions, answers, real case scenarios, slides, videos, booklets, education on other types of harassment such as, race, religion, mental capacity, physical stature or illness,marital status. sexual orientation and age. Toward the end of the training session a quiz may be given. Some businesses also off the E-training option. If a company or business does not comply, and an incident occurs in the workplace, a sexual harassment lawyer may assist the employee with a lawsuit against the employer. In cases where the employer is not at fault, the attorney may defend him against the employee who filed the claim.

How do you define sexual harassment? A federal jury awarded Anucha Browne Sanders $11.6 million to be paid by Madison Square Garden and its chairman for damages in a sexual harassment lawsuit. It seems (pending appeal) the jury found NY Knicks coach Isiah Thomas made unwanted advances to Browne Sanders and also verbally insulted her. Nevertheless Thomas (who confidently says he's innocent) escaped having to pay punitive damages.
