Harassment Attorneys And Why You May Need One

There are several types of harassment violations, but not all are of a sexual nature. Harassment lawyers may be contacted for instances of age discrimination, race bias, unfair job loss and benefits owed an employee. Under the law, sexual harassment may be defined as unwelcome advances from another employee or supervisor, the unwilling victim of crude joking, sexual name calling of specific body parts, inappropriate touching, demands or requests for sexual favors and statements of continued employment based only on sexual favors. All of these contribute to a hostile or abusive work environment which causes job duties to suffer. Harassment lawyers are trained in all types of discrimination and seek to claim monetary damages when there is a violation of the rights of employees. Often, it is difficult for an employee to speak out for fear of losing his job. For this reason, training should be mandatory for all employees in order to assist them in learning the rules of discrimination, gender bias, and sexual harassment. For example, a situation in the workplace could be one in which a person feels uncomfortable or discriminated against by another employee, especially if there are statements or actions which instill fear of harm, to annoy, or cause such distress, the employee's ability to perform job duties declines. The first step an employee should do, is tell the person face to face in front of a witness to stop the harassment immediately. If the behavior continues, then filing an employer harassment claim will allow the incident to be investigated. If the harassment is of a sexual nature, the EEOG will check into all recorded documents. No proof of psychological harm is required, only that the employee found it difficult to perform job duties because of a hostile work environment. In cases where the rights of the employee are not readily available, the employee feels embarrassed, or there is a fear of retaliation should the complaint be against a supervisor, a harassment lawyer should be contacted as soon as possible because, he is well versed in employee rights and will explain these to the complainant.

Defining Sexual Harassment - Isiah Thomas and Browne Sanders

How do you define sexual harassment? A federal jury awarded Anucha Browne Sanders $11.6 million to be paid by Madison Square Garden and its chairman for damages in a sexual harassment lawsuit. It seems (pending appeal) the jury found NY Knicks coach Isiah Thomas made unwanted advances to Browne Sanders and also verbally insulted her. Nevertheless Thomas (who confidently says he's innocent) escaped having to pay punitive damages.
